DBG Shield Bo foreign exchange platform: US media say the Iranian president has been killed! Gold prices have once again reached an all-time high
Monday (May 20) Asian time, the spot gold shock rose, once refreshed the record high of 2440.53 US dollars/ounce, on the one hand, after the US inflation data released last week, the market is expected to raise interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, continue to support gold prices; on the other hand, concerns about the geopolitical situation also continue to provide safe-haven buying support for gold prices.
An Iranian official said a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Airabdollahian crashed on Sunday (May 20) while crossing mountains in thick fog, and rescuers were struggling to get to the scene.
The official said the lives of Mr. Raisi and Mr. Abdullahiyan were "in danger after the helicopter crash" on their way back from a visit to the north-western Iranian border with Azerbaijan.
Forex Platform- "We are still hopeful, but the information coming from the crash site is very worrying," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
According to the official Iranian news agency, citing the search and rescue scene, the exact geographical coordinates of the accident of the helicopter carried by Iranian President Raisi have been determined through aerial monitoring. The area is called Tifil, and rescue teams are currently heading to the area. But the news has not been officially confirmed.

Regarding the cause of the accident, some Iranian media quoted by The Associated Press used the term "hard landing" to describe the nature of the helicopter accident. The specific cause of the accident is not yet known.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement through his spokesperson that he was following reports of a hard landing by a helicopter carrying the Iranian president. Guterres wished Iranian President Raisi and his entourage nothing.
According to the Iranian Student News Agency, on the 19th local time, after learning of the helicopter accident involving Iranian President Raisi and his accompanying officials, Iran's First Vice President Mukhbel held a cabinet meeting to determine that Iranian Vice President Mansour and the Iranian Minister of Health would go to the scene of the accident and mobilize all forces to follow up the progress of the incident.
The latest report by the American media "The Atlantic" said that the Iranian president has died in a helicopter crash in a mountain, but no official statement has been released.
Arash Azizi, a senior lecturer in history and political science at Clemson University, wrote in an article in The Atlantic: "I have been told by sources close to the Iranian presidential administration that Raisi's death has been confirmed, but I have been unable to find independent confirmation of the news."
The Iranian government, Mr. Aziz said, "is looking for ways to communicate this without causing confusion."
According to Mr. Aziz, after Mr. Raisi's death, various political groups will begin to flex their muscles, while some have already set off fireworks in Tehran to celebrate the president's possible death.
The historian added: Most Iranians feel barely represented by any faction in the Islamic Republic, and some of them may use the moment of political crisis to reignite the street protests that have repeatedly besieged the regime in the past.
Obviously, the Iranian president's "plane crash" incident also triggered a lot of speculation and concern in the market, adding more uncertainty to the situation in the Middle East and providing a certain upward momentum for gold prices.
FXDailyReport analyst Nicholas Kitonyi pointed out that gold has now risen above the 100-hour moving average. Therefore, the price of gold appears to be about to enter the overbought level of the 14-hour relative strength index (RSI).
Adam Button, head of currency strategy at Forexlive, said the recent move was a continuation of a broader rally and was being driven by the same source. "This rally started with demand and is now being sustained by the upside." He added that recent data showed that Turkey and much of the Middle East were also buying gold, in addition to Asian powers.
