Fed meeting notes damage to interest rate cut prospects, analysts: dollar bulls point to near three-week high

Forex Platform- The dollar surged on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve released May FOMC meeting notes, which raised concerns about persistent inflation and indicated that interest rate cuts were unlikely in the near future. Market analysts said the dollar index was on track to challenge 105.74, a near three-week high hit on May 9, amid rising trading volumes.

Treasury yields rose as Fed meeting notes highlighted policymakers' scepticism about an imminent rate cut. The rise in yields boosted demand for the dollar, reflecting the market's reaction to the Fed's cautious stance on inflation.

The April 30-May 1 FOMC meeting notes showed persistent concerns about inflation. The meeting notes showed that the Federal Reserve had not made significant progress toward its 2% inflation target, and several members discussed the possible need for further rate hikes if inflation did not fall as expected.

The hawkish tone of the meeting notes suggests the Fed is likely to maintain higher interest rates for an extended period.

Chris Zaccarelli, chief investment officer of the Alliance of Independent Advisers, noted that "the official slogan is long-term higher," underscoring the Fed's commitment to controlling inflation.

According to meeting notes, several Fed officials stressed the need for patience in cutting interest rates.

Christopher Waller, the Fed governor, said more evidence was needed that inflation and economic activity had eased before a rate cut could be considered.

Susan Collins, president of the Boston Fed, and Rafael Bostic, president of the Atlanta Fed, also stressed the importance of caution.

    Dollar technical analysis

James Hyerczyk, an analyst at FXEmpire, said the dollar index was trading higher late Wednesday, hovering in a strong range at the 50-day moving average of 104.909, indicating that recent strength is strengthening.

Since the market successfully broke through the longer-term 200-day moving average (currently at 104.376) late last week, a potential bullish breakout has been developing.

In addition to the 200-day moving average, another support is the fluctuating bottom of 104.080. A successful breakout of the rally, coupled with an increase in volume, could eventually test 105.742 in the short term.

At 08:27 Beijing time, the dollar index was trading at 104.88.
