What is the non-farm employment report exactly?

The Employment Report, which includes employment-related information, is derived from two separate surveys, namely the Business Survey and the Household Survey. Among them, the Business Survey provides information on employment in the non-agricultural sector, with an index of average hourly work and total hours; the Household Survey provides information on the labor force, household employment, and unemployment rate. The Employment Report is often hailed asforeign exchange marketThe "crown jewel" of all economic indicators that can respond, it is the most sensitive monthly economic indicator in the market, and investors can usually see a lot of market-sensitive information in it. Among them, the gold and foreign exchange markets pay special attention to the change of seasonally adjusted monthly non-farm payrolls.

What exactly is the non-farm employment report? (Figure 1)

Non-farm payrolls: An item in the employment report, which mainly measures the change of jobs outside of agricultural production. The data is released together with the unemployment rate and is usually released on the Friday of the first week of each month. Non-farm payrolls reflect the development and growth of the manufacturing and service industries. A decrease in the number indicates that the company has reduced production and the economy has entered a depression, and vice versa. This data is an important indicator of the degree and condition of socio-economic and financial development. The release of this data has the potential to be a turning point in the direction of the gold and foreign exchange markets, and it may also bring about violent fluctuations in the gold and foreign exchange markets.

Unemployment Rate (Unemployment Rate): It is also an item in the US employment report. It refers to the number of labor forces who are willing to work in a certain period of time but still do not have a job. The data is released by the US Department of Labor together with the number of non-farm payrolls, and it is usually released on the Friday of the first week of each month. The unemployment rate data can be used to judge the employment situation of the entire working population in a certain period of time. The unemployment rate is regarded as an indicator of the overall economic situation, and it is the first economic data published every month, so investors like to use the unemployment rate indicator to analyze the current economic situation in the United States and its impact on the gold market. Under normal circumstances, a decrease in the unemployment rate represents the overall healthy development of the economy, which is conducive to currency appreciation; an increase in the unemployment rate represents a slowdown in economic development and a recession, If the unemployment rate is analyzed by the inflation index of the same period, it can be known whether the economic development was overheating at that time, whether it would pose pressure to raise interest rates, or whether it is necessary to cut interest rates to stimulate economic development. The Bureau of Labor Statistics surveys monthly samples of households across the United States. If the unemployment rate in the United States is lower than the previous month, it means that the employment situation has increased, the overall economic situation is better, and the dollar will rise. If the unemployment rate is large, it indicates that the US economy may experience a recession, which will have an adverse impact on the dollar.
