Renowned economist: The actual inflation rate in the United States is close to 15%.

US video-streaming giant Netflix posted strong third-quarter results on Wednesday, sending its shares up more than 12.5 per cent in after-hours trading.

The biggest bright spot in the earnings report is the surge in Netflix's subscribers, and the global net new subscribers 8.76 million, which was 2.41 million in the same period last year, far exceeding the 6.20 million expected by Wall Street, and setting the largest quarterly net new record since the second quarter of 2020.

At the same time as the surge in users, Netflix announced price increases in its largest markets, such as the United States, Britain, and France, for the first time since March 2022.

In the United States, Netflix will increase the price of its premium subscription service by $2 to $22.99, raise the price of its lowest-priced subscription service by $2 to $11.99, and keep the price of its most popular subscription service unchanged at $15.49. The subscription service with advertising will also remain unchanged at $6.99 per month.

Peter Schiff, a well-known economist, commented on Netflix's price increase on social media, saying that the company has raised prices by an average of 15% per year over the past three years, which is close to the real inflation rate in the United States.

"#Netflix just raised the price of its premium service by 15% to $22.99 per month. Before the 2020 pandemic, the price was only $15.99 per month. That's up 44% in three years, or close to 15% per year. That's closer to the actual inflation rate than the official CPI," Schiff wrote.
