According to the comprehensive short-term table, the latest 11 BDI data growth situations are: positive growth 5 times, negative growth 6 times, and zero growth 0 times. Among them, the Panama-type freight index (BPI) reported 1815 points, up 0.50% from the previous value, the Cape-type freight index (BCI) reported 3007 points, down 11.35%, and the ultra-handy ship freight index (BSI) reported 1408 points, up 0.57%. The latest 720-day trend chart and ten-year trend chart of the Baltic Dry Index + three major sub-items are detailed in the latest information special chart.

One chart: Capesize rates plunge, Baltic freight index falls (Figure 1)

The Baltic Exchange Dry Bulk Seaborne Index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk goods, fell on Tuesday as rates for Capesize ships plunged.

The main index measuring rates for Capesize, Panamax and Handysize ships fell 122 points, or 5.7%, to 2,022.

The index posted its best one-day performance in four months on Monday, weighed down by expectations of higher shipping costs following China's pledge to impose additional port fees on US ships.

On Tuesday, Washington and Beijing began imposing additional port fees on ocean shipping companies that ship everything from holiday toys to crude oil.

The Capesize index fell 385 points, or 11.4 percent, to 3,007, after posting its best one-day gain since July 11.

Capesize ships, which typically carry 150,000 tons of cargo such as iron ore and coal, saw average daily earnings decrease by $3,194 to $24,938.

Iron ore futures fell as investors took profits after the focus shifted back to expectations for iron ore supply growth for the rest of 2025 and a seasonal slowdown in steel demand in China, the largest consumer.

The Panamax index rose 0.5% to 1,815.

Panamax ships, which typically carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, saw average daily earnings rise by $80 to $16,337.

Among smaller vessels, the index for ultra-handy vessels rose 0.6% to 1,408 points.
